BAKE SALE ITEMS STILL NEEDED!

The Festival is this Saturday Sep 7, and we would LOVE to make this the Best Bake Sale in the history of R.C.V.F.D. We need all the baked goodies you can make! As always Pies are the most requested item and we can never have too many. Cookies, Bars, Brownies, Cupcakes, Fudge and Loaves of Bread are always in demand too. Anything you are inspired to bake will be a hit! Please package items in sellable amounts, for example a dozen cookies in a bag. It is very helpful if allergen ingredients are listed, nuts, dairy etc. I will be at the Bake Sale Tent at 7:30 Am the day of the festival. Drop off your baked items any time. If you need to make other arrangements to get your baked items to the festival please give me a call at 970-472-8426. Just leave a message and I will return your call. Dear Neighbors -

The Silent Auction at the RCVFD Festival this Saturday, September 7, has collected some truly awesome donations from some truly awesome donors! There are too many items to list here, but most ARE on the Festival website festival.rcvfd.org. Here are just a few of the wonderful, useful, and unusual items that you REALLY should know about (and buy)!

• Ruben’s Rides: Ruben Arrieta has donated two off-roading tours in his vehicle ‘The Animal’. One is a half day for four people, and the other is a full day for four with food. He REALLY takes you out into the wilds! The half day trip is worth $300 with a minimum bid of $150; the full day is worth $600 with a minimum bid of $300.


• An engine-driven drafting pump for firefighting, irrigation, draining, or anything that requires a good flow of water over distance or height. It’s on its own trailer (with title) with a large DeeZee utility box, and lots of hose. Jon Stephens donated it to us (thank you, Jon!). Its value is $2,500, minimum bid $1,900.


• A wine-blending experience: Blendings Winery, a new place on Bingham Hill Road, has donated a two hour blending experience with three bottles of wine! Valued at $120. Thank you, Blendings and Trisha Johnston!


• A fly rod from Elkhorn, value $259 (thank you, Jon McQuillan!)


• A new 3500W gas powered generator donated by Jan Schmid, valued at $385


• Really good bike stuff. We have $200 in merchandise from Parkside Cyclery, and $250 in merchandise from Trek Cycles.


• A fun-filled weekend in Cheyenne. Tickets to see and feed the bison at Terry Bison Ranch (I tried it - they have long black sandpapery tongues!), lunch at their really good restaurant (feed the bison, eat the bison), a night at the Plains Hotel (it is beautiful), dinner at THEIR really good restaurant, passes to three GREAT Cheyenne museums, beer at Accomplice Beer Company (self-serve!) and lunch at the Rib and Chop House. Value $340.


• Beautiful handmade goods: Awesome table runners made by Juana Jackson, hand-knit baby sweater and kid’s sweater by Pat Carey, a queen-sized quilt valued at $600+ beautifully made by Kathy Macke (thanks, Lana), a patriotic yard sign by Alteration Boutique, Carolyn Stanley’s indestructible totes (4!), Gretchen Long’s awesome pottery, and many others will adorn our tent this Saturday!


• Rent a farmhouse at the Rist Canyon Inn for a night. You could have your dream event (wedding, reunion, birthday) at their beautiful venue and stash all your out of town guests here! Wedding not included, of course! Value: $695


• We have over 85 gift cards and certificates, for items ranging from meals and haircuts to escape rooms, tattoos, pizzas, dentistry, massages, and sewing machine repairs. There are others for classes and lessons in everything from fly fishing to weaving. Come check them out!


• There are some REALLY GOOD goodie bags from Ace Downtown Hardware, Trader Joes, Joy Organics, Kriser’s Pet Supply, Verns, and Copoco Honey.


• There will be a few rare books from the book tent: one a 1918 history of Larimer County, the other a 1923 book about restaurant layouts, including that of Denver Union Station (a window back into the 20s: hiring old men instead of young ones, waitresses starting their own childcare co-op, etc.)


I’m sure I missed some good ones, so you’ll have to come to the Festival to see the rest!

The hours for the Silent Auction are 10:00 am to 3:15 pm. Items can be collected starting at 4:15 at the auction tent. If you will not be there between 4:15 and 5:15, we will contact you to make other arrangements.

RCVFD Mountain Festival is Only 3 days away!

We need volunteers! You can help set-up on the 5th, 6th, 7th, or help work at the Festival in the Book Tent, Silent Auction, Plant Tent, help with clean-up, tear-down, or in any capacity, we need you! Don't forget that when a school bus has its red lights flashing, it is illegal and unsafe to pass it in either direction. Our resident school bus driver has reported several high-speed drive-pasts while he is picking up children for school, and that's a horrible accident waiting to happen. Let's all stay safe!

Hi folks - Got your Address Sign Yet? How will RCVFD find you in case of an emergency? Planning ahead is the best way for us to find you, whether it be a Medical or Fire Emergency.

First: ALWAYS Call 911 - Never call a fire fighter, even if they are your neighbor, they will direct you to call 911.

Next: RCVFD can come quickly to your home. But mait - If you don't have an address sign at your driveway how will we find you quickly? Minutes can make a big difference - please make sure you have a reflective sign available so we can find you even on the darkest nights. These are available for only $15 from RCVFD.

If you don't yet have your sign and plan to be at the Festival on September 7, from 10-4, Plan Ahead! Call Louise Creager NOW at 970.217.6843. Leave your name, phone number, and the number of your address. For example, if your address is 567 Main St, we need the number 567. Your number will be available at the entrance of the festival grounds on festival day.

Don't plan to be at the festival? - Call Louise NOW and she will arrange to meet you at a designated pick-up location, your home, or business!

I was reading a book in my garden at around 9:45 AM, when I heard a noise like a weedeater approaching from the back of our property. Shortly a drone descended out of the sky to about 12 feet above the ground with its camera trained on our back door where it hovered for 30 to 40 seconds. It then turned its camera, apparently saw me and quickly took off towards Rist Canyon Road. My husband Mark was just returning home and saw the PVREA Contractor truck parked on Rist Canyon Road.

We followed up with PVREA and learned their contractor had flown our property three times, though they don’t admit to hovering at our back door and there are no power lines behind the house. They tell us our contract to receive power from PVREA allows them to fly anywhere on our property without permission at any time. If anyone else has had a similar experience, please let us know as we would like to strengthen our complaint with PVREA.

This Saturday, Aug 3, at 9:30 am, RCVFD will be pouring concrete for the foundation of a shed to hold our Festival books. We can really use your help, and no experience is required. However, a strong back will definitely make for an easier morning. If you are able to help move mud around in wheel barrows and lend a hand wherever necessary, it would really help out.

Our dog, Scout, got scared yesterday and jumped the fence during the storm. We found her tag which fell off of her pink collar, but if you see her, will you let us know? She’s old and doesn’t hear well, but is super sweet!

Our dog Stella went missing this morning around 9:00. She is a brown female with a purple collar and well over 100 lbs. We live just past the fire station on Rist Canyon Rd.
