Bear Break In

RCVFD & Community,

We had a bear break into our cabin on MT Ethel. First floor was mostly destroyed. There was no opened food in the cabin. A neighbor had an incident with a bear last year in his 5th wheel.

Regards,

Alex Smith

Rufus and Sienna

We found (2) dogs running loose on Rist Canyon Rd below Whale Rock Road. Tags say their names are Rufus and Sienna (sp?). We called the phone numbers on the tags, but they are up at a home in Peaceful Ln.and can call 484-798-5065 to retrieve them. One is a white shaggy dog (Rufus) and the other is a white spotted short hair retiever type (I think).

Looking for Zoey

We went for a hike with our dogs this morning around 9 am and we were almost home (Mt Ethel on the Stove Prairie Road side) when we lost track of Zoey our black Boston terrier. She is all black with a white face and about 13 lbs. She doesn't have a collar on but does have a chip. If you spot her please call Andrea.

Bears and Trash

Our trash truck drivers reported seeing the results of more than 14 bear events on Tuesday. Bears primarily overturning dumpsters and scattering trash all over heck and gone. Sid is eye-balling each site to determine the possibility of chaining the dumpsters to trees or some other immovable object. In the meantime, be safe – don’t try to chase the bears away. It’s not our favorite thing, but we can certainly put the dumpsters back upright and rake up the scattered trash.

More Bears

Hi all. We want to report another bear break in up Rist canyon.

Bears Awake and Hungry

We have a cabin between Redstone Canyon & Rist Canyon and have had two bear break-ins in the last three weeks. We do not keep much food at our cabin nor do we leave trash in the building. The first time was the last week in April. The bear broke through the glass on one of our doors, tore down the door covering, entered the building and carefully took all the condiments, beverages, & other small edibles (sealed jar of peanut butter, Hostess crumb cakes) from the refrigerator, checked in a few cabinets (found and ate a large container of Tums) and stood on a few counters. There was very little damage inside & the bear seemed to know where food is normally kept, so we think this was not it's first time in a home. There had been lots of moisture during that time so we could see the muddy paw prints everywhere the bear had been - it walked through the main floor but didn't tear anything up inside.
The second break-in occurred May 12th. The bear tried to break through a window but didn't succeed then broke another door, came in, looked through a few cabinets and the refrigerator but found nothing edible and left. We had a trail camera pointed at the deck entrance and caught a few pictures of the bear pushing on the door to get in.
It's rather troubling that the bear is so comfortable and seems to know it's way around a home. We urge everyone to be wary and vigilant!
