We found a dog that would really like to go home to his owners (found on our property on Fire Rte 3)? He is a neutered male, about 30 ish pounds. Looks like a boarder collie/aussie/pit cross. Black and white with some brown on the legs. Sweet attitude. No tags, but has a black collar with "Top Dog" on the buckle. Our number is 970 224 3734

Current fire restrictions (which were set to expire the end of this month) have been extended by the Board of County Commissioners until at least September 15th. Although we have gotten a little moisture, fuel conditions are still dry. The Hertha Ridge fire near Carter Lake showed us that fires can move quickly under current conditions.

I would like to put out an alert this week to remind people to bring plants for the plant booth at the Festival. Any size, any kind, potted, or not potted. They can be dropped off on any time on Saturday or early Sunday morning before the Festival.

It is that time of year again when we are all thinking about what we can do to support our fabulous RCVFD.

The Bake Sale Tent at the festival NEEDS your yummy baked donations! PIES are always the biggest hit and the most in demand. Brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and bars are also in great sellers. It is always helpful if items are packaged ready to sell. It is also helpful if ingredients are listed especially if they have high allergy potential ie: nuts.

Last year we had almost 40 pies and sold out before the festival was over!! Baking to support the RCVFD is a wonderful way to involve the entire family.

We appreciate any and all donations and thank you in advance for your ongoing support.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer some time please don't hesitate to contact me. The day of the festival I will be at the bake sale tent by 8 am.

The yaks are home, they are all accounted for, thanks everyone!

Dear Folks,

We put a herd of nine yaks in a pasture at about mile marker 33 in mid-July. They seemed happy there. Alas! they did not appear to be there on Wednesday, August 3. A neighbor reported seeing them on East White Pine on Monday, August 1. They include a bull who looks like a buffalo, several smaller females and 3 or so calves. Most are black; some have white, including one of the babies.

Mrs. Osterlie called me on Saturday to say that their place and their next door neighbors were broken into and burglarized on Friday. They live on the Stove Prairie Road south of the school. I think all of our neighbors should be aware of it and be on the lookout for any strange activity up Rist Canyon and Stove Prairie.

Larimer County - ***Situational Awareness Only ***No Action Required

As of noon today, a ban on open fires for the unincorporated portions of Larimer County goes into effect. Also in effect is a ban on the use of fireworks, public firework displays and incendiary devices.

Due to dry conditions, the danger of wildfire, forest and grass fires is very high in Larimer County. Today’s restrictions were based on a recommendation from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and were unanimously approved by the Board of County Commissioners.

Restricted Today:
• No open fires, including camp or cooking fires.
• Smoking in the open is not allowed, including trails, parks and open spaces.
• No fireworks or firework displays.
• No incendiary devices, including sky lanterns, exploding ammunition, exploding targets, and tracer ammunition.

Not Restricted:
• Contained open fires in permanently constructed stationary masonry or metal fireplaces specifically designed for the purpose of combustion
• The use of internal or external combustion engine with a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order and meeting published standards.
• Fireplaces or wood stoves located inside permanent structures.
• Fires in commercially operated wood and/or charcoal fired grills designed for cooking.
• Charcoal fired grills when used at a private residence and location on a non-combustible surface of at lease ten feet in diameter.
• Fires such as those in camp stoves and grills using gas or pressurized liquid.

The Sheriff may give limited exemptions from these restrictions based on his pre-approval and inspection.
