Larimer County permits burning of slash via its Open Burn Permit process. These permits are free, and can be obtained directly from Larimer County for burn dates between October 1 and March 31. Be sure to apply in advance (at least a week or two), because the permitting process takes several days.
Once you have obtained your permit, there are certain responsibilities you have on the day of your burn. See the Larimer County guidelines for more information, but in a nutshell:
Don't burn if there is less than 3 inches of snow on the ground (more is better!)
Don't burn if winds are currently or forecasted to be higher than 10mph.
Don't burn anything other than actual slash (no yard waste or construction debris).
Slash piles must be no larger than 8-10 feet in diameter and 6 feet high.
All slash burns must be extinguished by nightfall.
