Beaver Fire

The Beaver Fire is a small (approximately 5 acre) fire near the CSU Mountain Campus off the Pingree Park Road. There were approximately 25 firefighters on scene last night, camping out at the Mountain Campus so they could be back on the fire early this morning. The behavior was reported as fairly quiet, and frankly with the moisture levels as high as they are, I would not expect this fire to grow rapidly. Also, given its location it is not likely to affect us here in Rist Canyon. We will be watching it closely this weekend – ready to lend a hand if they call for mutual aid from neighboring departments.

However, this fire is a reminder going into the holiday weekend to be extra careful with fire – make sure your campfires are fully out (cold and wet enough to stick your hand in the ashes). Remember that any fireworks that leave the ground are illegal in Colorado. I strongly encourage you to enjoy one of the municipal displays, rather than take risks in our community.

Thanks & Adios, CJD
