REDFEATHER LAKES, Colo. (Oct. 7, 2023) – Fire crews are waiting for temperatures to warm and overnight frost to dry off before operations can begin on Magic Feather Prescribed Burn, possibly later today. A forest closure is in place south of County Road 74e (Redfeather Lakes Road), including Lady Moon and Elkhorn Creek Trailheads. The Mount Margaret Trailhead will remain open.
This prescribed burn is part of the overall strategy on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests to confront the Wildfire Crisis. Prescribed fire is one of the most efficient ways of reducing wildfire risk. Regularly conducting prescribed fires, which mimic nature, reduces the buildup of flammable vegetation and overgrowth.
